The newly elected President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan delivered an
inaugural address on April 9, Wednesday.
'Assuming the office I swear to fulfill all the requirements of the
Constitution, respect the rights and freedoms of every human being
and citizen without reservations, ensure the country's independence,
territorial integrity and security for the welfare of Republic of
Armenia and the Armenian people', Serzh Sargsyan says.
President-elect Serzh Sarkisian officially confirmed on Tuesday his
intention to appoint the longtime chairman of the Armenian Central Bank
(CBA) as the country's new prime minister.
Mr Javier Solana, the EU High Representative for common foreign and
security policy, congratulated Serzh Sargsyan on assuming the office
of President of Armenia.
The congratulatory message says, in part, "Dear Mr President, Let me
congratulate you on assuming the office of President of Armenia. The
European Union has been closely watching the post-election developments
in Armenia. We are aware of the problems that emerged after you won
the presidential election but we do welcome your proposal for dialogue.
The European Union is willing to assist Armenia in resisting these
challenges and hopes for developemnt of relations with the Republic
of Armenia."
Today is 40 days from the events of March 1 which took lives of people.
People are coming to the statue of Miasnikyan, who bring flowers
and burning candles in memory of the victims. There are a number of
policemen around the statue who ask people to leave the place after
laying the flowers. People move to the adjacent park.
