The National Assembly of the breakaway republic of Nagorno-Karabakh has
appointed lawyer Yury Airapetian as the region's first-ever ombudsman
on Wednesday.
All branches of power and the public are interested in the creation
of this institution in Nagorno-Karabakh, Airapetian told Interfax.
"This deals not only with the restoration of breached rights of a
certain individual, which is important as well, but in the broad
meaning with the creation of a system that would guarantee everyday
control over the observance of the rights and lawful interests of a
person," the ombudsman noted.
"This is how our state shows the whole world its adherence to
democratic principles," he said.
Airapetian, 54, earlier served as chairman of the parliamentary
commission for state and legal issues.
