On April 12th, 1992 in Maragha the greatest tragedy of the 20th
century was done, which should keep freshly our historical memory. At
a distance of Martakert people of Maragha founded their new village
and called New Maragha. Below we represent the documentary with
abbreviations. It was April 10th,1992 and the sun was not shining in
the sky. It was raining, and the roads were slippery. The village was
sheltered in basements and was waiting.Everybody - in his own way. What
was going on there - outdoors? Minutes were passing. Danger. Nobody
could count, how long the silence lasted, but they felt, that the
distance between Tartar and Maragha was shortened. Heavy thunder
of tanks broke the silence. Then rough steps of military boots over
dugout - tukhk, tukhk, tukhk. Turkish talk. Seda looked at beautiful
daughter-in-law. It took her breath away.

Shells were blowing up. Seda looked at her daughter-in-law and her
two children and everything was black before her eyes. The turk
entered Maragha. - Throw out arms! The command was reapeted two,
three times... They pulled out goldenware from ears, neck, hands. The
daughter-in-law rolled herself up into a ball and covered her face
with hands. The turk pulled-raised by her hand and the tip of sword
pulled from top to bottom. The daughter-in-law cried. The turk again
pulled out her, but she cried and rushed out. The throng wailed. The
daughter-in-law was getting away, and the throng - after her. Tanks
were trampling the village. Houses were being burnt. The turks were
playing accordion and were dancing. Seda, taken children in her arms,
was running to the nearest vegetable-garden. She saw that not far
away sister of her daughter-in-law Karine was running and crying,
Then she fell.... Seda then saw nothing. The turks struck her head
and snatched two years old Vigen out of her hands. The turks again
struck her head. She felt nothing. She saw nothing. Only black-dark
picture. They struck her hands with axe. She felt breath of her son's
warm body on her breast and she gasped for breath.

U...u...u...u... - she cried. 51 peaceful villagers were killed. 49
persons were taken prisoner. Fate of 26 persons remained unknown. ---
--- --- April 11. In the headquarters was the session of military
    council.

The commander of Martakert's defence district Vagif Galstian,
commander assistant Rudik Hyusnunts, the chief of communication
service Vigen Asatrian, the chief of the headquarters Haykaz, Hamlet
Ghoukasian, Nerses Ohanjanian were sitting. The commanders of the
region's detachments were present. Everybody was for to take back
Maragha. One of the views was the following: to wait in the night and
take the offensive at dawn. Basing: the attack will be unexpected,
therefore, the enemy's resistance - weak. The program of resistance
was worked out. Thus, Maragha's detachments of 180 persons participated
in Maragha's winning back, by th head of Zhora Poghosian, "Liberatory
army" commanded by Leonid Azgaldian and Vladimir Balaian, commanders
of Martakert's battalion Armen Navtalian, Armo Baghdasarian, Vardan
Minasian, Arkady Shirinian from Verin Horatagh, Radik Hayrapetian
commander of Nerqin Horatagh's battalion, Ashot Ohanjanian (Dushman)
from Haterk. The region's self-defence powers of 280 prsons, entered
Maragha. Street fightings took place. The turks resisted two hours. At
midnight they left for Maragha in panic. 42 peaceful inhabitants
were killed. A number of killed turks was 24. They took 49 peaceful
inhabitants as hostage. They burnt 153 houses.

The turks negotiated with armenians, they asked for their corpses,
instead of which they suggested to return 4 hostages. The Armenians
agreed. Near Mir Bashir an exchange took place . Thus, on April 11th
the delegation entered Maragha: the vice-speaker of House of Lords
of England, baronesse Caroline Cox, Zory Balaian, Felix Gzoghian,
    correspondents, experts.
