Armenian Genocide
Presentation-exhibition of Taner Akcam's "A shameful act. The Armenian
Genocide and the issue of Turkish responsibility" was held in Athens.
According to RA MFA press center, translation and publication of the
book was carried out with the support of Armenian National Committee
of Greece and "Papazisiz" publishing-house.
In his speech Taner Akcham mentioned, "I am often asked why Turkey
has adopted such a repulsive policy in the issue of the recognition of
the Armenian Genocide. I think that the issue has a moral side only,
as each nation has its heroes and it is very difficult to comprehend
their shortcomings and to recognize that they are criminals and liars.
Degradation of national heroes can have incomprehensible consequences
on the issue of protection of national dignity. It is the main reason
why democracy is so important in Turkey and my distinct position has
always been to appeal to Turkish people to stand face-to-face with
their history".
RA Ambassador Vahram Kadzoyan, Greece Parliament Vice Speaker
Anastasios Nerandzis, MPs, leaders of the Armenian community, also
clergymen and many people were present at the presentation.
The book was also presented in Thessaloniki on April 15.
