ARMENIAN-TURKISH RELATIONS ON THE AGENDA OF EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
AZG Armenian Daily

Armenian Genocide
On April 21, Foreign Relations Committee of the European Parliament
put to the vote the new draft report of Dutch MP Ria Omen-Ruyten. The
draft report calls on Turkish authorities to lift the economic blockade
against Armenia and open the border.
The draft report doesn't contain the words "Armenian Genocide";
instead, it called on the Armenian and Turkish authorities to start
a process of future conciliation providing open and frank discussions
of past incidents.
It is mentioned also that 6 of 250 changes to the draft report refer
to the Armenian Question.
To recall, in the report of Ria Omen-Ruyten that was put to vote in
2007 in Foreign Relations Committee of the European Parliament again
was not mentioned about the fact of the Armenian Genocide. The report
was protested by ARF Hay Dat Committee of Europe qualifying the report
as a retreat compared with the report of 2006 that called on Turkey
to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
The draft report will be probably involved in the agenda of EP full
session on May.
