On April 22 the NKR prime minister held a meeting in which the
delegation of the Armenian ministry of education and science led by
the minister Levon Mkrtichyan participated. During the meeting the
issue of private universities was also discussed.
Prime Minister Ara Harutiunyan said the government is going to
have more rigid attitude to the private universities which often
provide diplomas rather than knowledge. According to him, the private
universities which do not meet the educational requirements will lose
the possibilities which they have now, and in the second stage they
will attend to vocational colleges.
A few months ago the service of license and accreditation of the NKR
ministry of education and science monitored the private universities of
NKR for 19 requirements. The universities Grigor Narekatsi and Mestrop
Mashtots complied with 15, Gyurjyan College of Applied Arts complied
with 10, Grigor Lusavorich complied with 13, Stepanakert branch of
Yerevan University of Management complied with 7, the branch of the
Russian-Armenian Modern Academy of the Humanities complied with 9,
and the branch of Yerevan State University complied with 7.
During the consultation the necessity of optimizing and improving
the universities of both Armenian states was discussed.
