"The authorities that try to forcefully bind the scientist or
the Academy of Sciences cannot have future," RA President Serzh
Sargsyan said during today's meeting with scientists. He added that
the scientists themselves should reach out to the authorities. The
President assured that the Armenian authorities are interested in
the development of science. He declared that the means allocated to
science will sharply increase year by year. However, there must be
confidence that these means are used effectively.
The President met with the academicians on the occasion of the annual
meeting of the National Academy of Sciences, where President of the
Academy Radik Martirosyan presented the report on the activity of
the previous year.
The scientists presented their views and suggestions on different
issues related to the present and future of science.
The meeting with scientists was attended by RA Prime Minister
Tigran Sargsyan, Minister of Education and Science Levon Lazarian,
Chairwoman of the NA Standing Committee on Education and Science
Hranush Hakobyan. The greetings of the Catholicos of All Armenians,
His Holiness Gargein II were conveyed by leader of the Araratian
Diocese Navasard Archbishop Kchoyan.
Expressing confidence that those present are most interested in full
application of the scientific potential of Armenia, President Serzh
Sargsyan assured he would do his best to reach this common objective.
"A State Scientific Committee has already been formed, and we expect
that the strengthening of this section of governance must yield
considerable results with regard to more effective solution of issues,"
Serzh Sargsyan said, adding that the Academy and the science will
always be in the focus of attention. The task of the scientists is to
raise the image of science and make it the pride of all Armenians," the
President said, promising to increase the sums allocated to science,
only there must be confidence that these are used effectively.
