Residents of Northern and Main Avenues held a protest action near
the President's residence on April 25.
They had come to hand a letter to Serzh Sarkissian.
The letter was signed by "the victims for state needs."
"We want to remind President Serzh Sarkissian that after being
appointed Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia last year he
received us and promised to handle our problem. It is already a year
since he has made the promise. Today he holds a higher post and we
want to remind him of his promise," The Chairman of the "Victims for
State Needs" NGO Sedrak Baghdasarian told A1+.
According to the protesters the authorities must endorse and respect
the decisions of the Constitutional Court.
"Dozens of RA civilians have been deprived of their right to property
and residence permit. In the result, they can no longer exercise their
right to elect and to be elected. In other words, those civilians
have got the status of "a homeless person with no fixed abode,"
the protesters' letter runs.
The residents say the change of the ministers will hardly solve the
problems existing in the country. The authorities are to take practical
steps. "It is already four years we have been off to streets. The
President should shoulder responsibility."
We voice hope that that the President cannot put up with the current
disgraceful situation and will take drastic measures to restore our
violated rights.
Therefore, we urge Serzh Sarkissian not to forward the letter to
the City Hall. We hope that you will set up a commission to conduct
a thorough study of the matter and to find a fair and just solution
to the problem."
