Tigran*, an elderly man, was sold into slavery in Chechnya. He was
eventually returned to Armenia without any documents, his house had
been sold and he had no way to support himself. With no other options,
Tigran turned to UMCOR for help.
UMCOR's Anti-Trafficking Program provides medical, psychological,
social and legal assistance to survivors of trafficking. Tigran
obtained a new passport, received much-needed medical assistance and
was accepted into a state-defined disability group so he could collect
his retirement pension. He now lives in a state-run retirement home
free of the fear of being forced into slavery again.
