BEIJING: Lightweight boxer Baik Jong-sub of South Korea has pulled
out of the Olympics with an injury just a few hours before his
quarterfinal bout.
Baik, who also reached the quarterfinals four years ago in Athens,
failed to attend his medical exam on Tuesday morning. The South Korean
team said Baik was ill, and the Yonhap news agency reported Baik had
a chest injury.
Baik's absence allowed his scheduled opponent, Armenia's Hrachik
Javakhyan, to advance to Friday's semifinals, clinching a medal
without a fight.
