ELMAR MAMMADYAROV MEETS EU TROIKA

Elmar Mammadyarov today met EU troika- Dimitrij Rupel, President of the
EU General Affairs and External Relations Council and Slovenian Foreign
Minister, Benita Ferrero- Waldner, European Commissioner for External
Relations and European Neighborhood Policy and Jacques Faure director
of French Foreign Ministry's Continental Europe Department APA reports
Mammadyarov stated that they debated issues on Azerbaijan's position
in the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict, energy security,
re-exportation of Central Asian gas via Azerbaijan to the world market,
cooperation in the framework of European Neighborhood Policy.
Mr.Rupel noted that new projects and plans are debated and these
plans are intended to be carried out in the framework of European
Neighborhood Policy. He stressed that, settlement of Nagorno Karabakh
conflict is important for the stability and development of the region.
"We hoped that democratization process will develop and journalists
will be released in Azerbaijan," he said. Ms. Waldner stressed that
they want democratic Azerbaijan will be a model in the region.
Ms.Waldner noted that energy security is an important issue in the
cooperation between Azerbaijan and EU and stated that Europe wants
Azerbaijan to support Trans-Caspian project.
