Presidential elections
On February 1, RA presidential candidate Arman Melikian was the quest
of "Pastark" club. The candidate qualified the 13th day of the campaign
as "rather correct". Mr. Melikian mentioned that the application to
Constitutional Court is ready. In the application they dispute the
changes of Electoral Law that deprive all our citizens abroad of
their electoral franchise. The licensed attorneys of the candidate
are going to apply to ombudsman in order to ask the latter to apply
to the Constitutional Court and demand to rehabilitate the rights of
our citizens that live abroad.
Mr. Melikian mentioned, "that unfairness is a violation of interests
and electoral franchise of our citizens abroad, it also opens a door
for falsifications in Election Day, as the names of those citizens
are still in registers"
After meeting with observers Mr. Melikian came to the conclusion that
"no observer can provide fair elections, as they only record the
process of the elections. But how to organize the elections is the
problem of the state and the society. And it depends on the level of
our maturity how legal coming elections will be".
"As to me, neither authorities are ready to yield up the power in
case of fair elections, nor the aggressive part of the opposition is
ready to admit defeat", mentioned Mr. Melikian.
The candidate didn't even want to speak of sociologist Adibekian,
but highly qualified the Gallup survey and mentioned that it could
be a serious base for the candidates in their pre-election strategy.
Arman Melikian said that in case of defeat he would remain in politics
and in the camp that will accept his approaches.
"Today we should create a political culture in Armenia that will
respect the citizens' rights of being informed", added the candidate.
At the end of the meeting the presidential candidate mentioned that
only in RF and USA there are half million voters, and he will try to
ascertain the number of Armenian citizens abroad through diplomatic
pipelines.
