SPEAKER OF MILLI MAJLIS MEETS PACE SUBCOMMITTEE CHAIRMAN
Ogtay Asadov, Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic
February 8 met with the Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the
Council of Europe Subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict Lord
Russell-Jonston .
Speaking about historical roots and grave consequences of the
conflict, Ogtay Asadov said, hundreds of thousands of people, ousted
from their native lands as a result of Armenian aggression against
Azerbaijan since 1990, have still been living in a very poor
conditions.
He said though Azerbaijani President wants to peacefully solve the
conflict, the Armenian aggressive policy impedes resolution of the
conflict.
To achieve settlement of the conflict, CE and other international
organizations are to make resolute efforts, he underlined.
`Armenia must be subjected to strict sanctions, because it ignores
all decisions and resolutions, adopted so far', the Speaker of the
Milli Majlis added.
At his words, the PACE subcommittee was established for
implementation of the Resolution 1416 in 2005, which concerns the
conflict settlement. He also stressed that international relations
must not ignore more than one million people's destiny. Armenia must
fulfill the resolutions and decisions of the UN Security Council and
the Council of Europe.
Lord Russell Jonston, in his turn, said that he agrees with the
chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament.
The meeting also discussed issues of mutual interests.
