ARMENIAN DEFENCE EXPENDITURES GROW BY 22.4% IN 2007 AS COMPARED WITH 2006
YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 8, NOYAN TAPAN. Out of budgetary expenditures of 565
bln 854.9 mln drams (about 1 bln 654.2 mln USD), 95 bln 819.3 mln drams
was spent in the defence sector in 2007, which exceeds by 22.4% the
index of 2006. The ratio of defence expenditures to GDP increased from
2.9% in 2006 to 3.1% in 2007.
According to the RA National Statistical Service, in 2007 budgetary
expenditures on public order protection, national security and justice
made 51 bln 452 mln drams, exceeding by 28% the index of 2006. Their
ratio to GDP grew from 1.5% in 2006 to 1.6% in 2007.
Expenditures on education and science made 87 bln 355.2 mln drams
(23.8% growth on 2006), their ratio to GDP grew from 2.7% to 2.8%. 62
bln 285.1 mln drams was spent in the social insurance and social
security sector (17.4% growth), their ratio to GDP remained unchanged
and made 2%; 44 bln 942.2 mln drams was spent on health care (25%
growth), the ratio of these expenditures to GDP did not change and made
1.4%.
39 bln 418.9 mln drams was spent in transport, road and communication
sector in 2007 (29.2% growth on 2006). The ratio of these expenditures
to GDP grew from 1.1% in 2006 to 1.3% in 2007.
