YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 14, NOYAN TAPAN. On February 14 Ara Abrahamian,
the Chairman of the World Armenian Congress, was decorated with
Marshal Baghramian order for the assistance periodically shown to
the Armenian Army.
The prize was given to Ara Abrahamian by Mikael Haroutiunian, the RA
Minister of Defence.
Issues concerning the strengthening of cooperation were discussed
during the conversation, which took place between Mikael Haroutiunian
and the leadership of the Congress on the same day. Congress Chairman
Ara Abrahamian offered to hold competitions in the army as well for
the titles the best officer and the best soldier. According to him,
those competitions will be like the ones being held by the Congress
with the Armenians Writers' and Journalists' Union. Such competitions,
in the estimation of Ara Abrahamian, will contribute to the relaxation
of the tension of the moral-psychological atmosphere in society, will
encourage different groups of society by the attention towards them
and estimation, a thing society, at present, needs much. According
to him, it will be desirable if other Diasporan Armenian benefactors
as well, all those, for whom the strengthening of the homeland is an
absolute value, come up with such initiatives. And the Armenian nation,
according to Ara Abrahamian, is rich in such sons. And if they are
passive and disappointed, the Chairman of the World Armenian Congress
claims that it is a result of a wrong policy being implemented towards
the Diaspora by the authorities of Armenia.
It was decided that the competitions will be held between senior
officer corps, middle officer corps and military corps by the financing
of the Congress.
