    YEGHISHE CHARENTS' DAUGHTER, ARPENIK CHARENTS PASSES AWAY

    YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 14, NOYAN TAPAN. The daughter of Yeghishe Charents,
    great poet of the 21st century, Arpenik Charents, died on February
    12 in Yerevan, at the age of 76, after a long-lasting disease.

    A. Charents remained parentless when she was five and spent her
    childhood and youth in Kanaker orphanage. She received her elementary
    education in the seven-year school of the orphanage, then studied at
    Yerevan State University's Philological Faculty. A. Charents dedicated
    whole her life to study of her father's life and creation, as well
    as was one of the founders of A. Charents House-Museum. She was the
    Honorable Chairwoman of the Museum's Scientific Council. A. Charents
    was also a member of the Union of Writers of Armenia. She is the
    author of a number of books. For her literary merit, as well as her
    75th birth anniversary A. Charents was awarded the medal of the Union
    of Writers of Armenia.

    Telegrams of condolence have been received from various colonies of
    the Diaspora, including the Union of Armenian Writers of California,
    on the occasion of A. Charents' death.

    The requiem of the poet's daughter took place on February 13 at
    Charents House-Museum. The art-loving society bade farewell to
    A. Charents on February 14 at the House-Museum.
