Russia sees no similarity between Karabakh, Kosovo conflicts - envoy
Baku, 18 February: "Kosovo's declaration of independence is an
illegal step," Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan Vasiliy Istratov has
told this journalists.
At present the UN Security Council is discussing this issue, he said,
hoping a right decision will be adopted at the end: "I hope that the
illegal decision of the local government will be repealed."
Commenting on possible change in Russia's attitude towards the
Nagornyy Karabakh problem after the Kosovo precedent, the ambassador
ruled out this option: "Russia has never approached the Karabakh
issue in the context of the Kosovo conflict."
