Mensur Akgun: After Kosovo's declaration of independence Azerbaijan
should be ready for active diplomatic activity concerning Nagorno
Karabakh conflict
[ 18 Feb 2008 15:45 ]
Istanbul. Mayis Alizade-APA. `After Kosovo's declaration of
independence Azerbaijan should be ready for active diplomatic
activity concerning the Nagorno Karabakh conflict,' Mensur Akgun,
Foreign Policy director of Turkish Economic and Social Studies
Foundation told APA exclusively.
According to Mensur Akgun, after Kosovo's declaration of
independence, the countries facing such problems will claim that the
fact will not influence them.
`The countries facing such problems will say Kosovo's independence
will not influence them. But the question is the violation of a
general rule, it is quite another matter whether it is a good step or
not. Violation of this rule created an indicator. If the problem of
Cyprus is not solved in the framework of the UN Charter, Kosovo will
be an indicator for Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It is
possible to say the same about Nagorno Karabakh. These will be the
processes complicating the classical methods of solution. The
countries of the European Union may sometimes make decisions in
connection with these issues independently. A number of EU countries
are expected to recognize Kosovo's independence. EU foreign ministers
will have a meeting today and Kosovo's independence will be discussed
there. After this event Azerbaijan should be ready for active
diplomacy in connection with Nagorno Karabakh,' he said.
