PARIS, FEBRUARY 22, NOYAN TAPAN. The Reporters Without Borders
organization calls for punishing the people, who committed acts of
violence to three journalists covering the February 19 elections in
Yerevan and hindered their activity. "The authorities should treat
seriously such incidents. The journalists were just doing their work,"
the organization mentioned.
The Reporters Without Borders touches upon the OSCE's view, according
to which the elections were held in line with the international
standards, though there is a need of improvement. At the same time the
organization focuses its attention on the acts of violence committed to
Lusine Barseghian, a correspondent of the Haykakan Zhamanak opposition
daily, Samvel Avagian, a correspondent of the Hayk daily, and Hovsep
Hovsepian, a cameraman of the A1+ TV Company. It was mentioned that
violence was used to journalists when the latters tried to fix and
to collect information on electoral violations they had witnessed.
