PRE-ELECTION HEADQUARTERS OF A. BAGHDASARIAN CALL ON CEC TO RESTORE
REAL PICTURE OF ELECTION RESULTS BY PROPER RECOUNTING
YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 23, NOYAN TAPAN. The pre-election headquarters of the
presidential candidate Artur Baghdasarian register that the February 19
presidential elections passed with gross violations of the Electoral
Code, the Criminal Code and other Armenian laws at the preparation,
voting, voting results summarizing and their appeal stages and were
accompanied by election rigging and fraud, as well as intimidation,
blackmail, beating, bribery and other indecent behavior towards
commission members, empowered persons, observers, reporters and finally
voters.
According to a press release submitted to NT by A. Baghdasarian's
pre-election headquarters, "unfortunately, no alarm call voiced by us
has received the adequate response, which has deepened even more the
current atmosphere of dustrust in the electoral process". According to
the authors of the press release, the indifference of the Central
Electoral Commission (CEC) has resulted in that the last opportunity to
restore justice, that is, the important stage of appealing the vote
results, is also being accompanied by illegal wilful actions of some
district electoral commissions. In particular, the applications for
recounting of voting resuls submitted by persons empowered to act for
A. Baghdasarian were rejected by numerous district commissions: No 3,
8, 21, 23, 24 and 38.
"The district electoral commissions obviously delay the process of
recounting the results in the polling stations indicated by us - in
case of necessity, they discuss the results in the polling stations
where, according to their information, the number of electoral
falsifications is small," is said in the press release.
"Taking into account the fact that the deadline for recounting of the
voting results expires tomorrow - on February 24, we call on the CEC to
take immediate measures and instruct the district electoral commissions
to restore the real picture of the election results through proper
recounting, otherwise, the legitimacy of the elections will be called
into question, which is fraught with danger of social confrontations
and will also cause serious damage to the international reputation of
our country, affecting its capacity to deal with domestic and external
challanges," the press release reads.
In this connection the pre-election headquarters of A. Baghdasarian
applied to the CEC.
