SMBAT AIVAZIAN AND PERSONS ACCOMPANYING HIM HAD WEAPONS WITH THEM, POLICE STATES

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 24, NOYAN TAPAN. The RA Police Main Department for
Fight against Organized Crime received an alarm call from an unknown
citizen at 11 a.m. on February 24 about armed persons sitting in a
black Lexus (number plate 03 SU 003) at the crossroads of Terian and
Koryun Streets in Yerevan.
According to a press release of the RA police, upon arriving at
the scene, the operative group detained the passengers of the car:
Smbat Aivazian, 49, former Armenian minister of state revenues,
Artak Sisakian, 34, previously convicted under Article 232 of
the old Criminal Code of the RA, and Vardan Kirakosian, 46. The
policemen searched them and found a cudgel with a black handle and a
nickel-plated spring (S. Aivazian carried it with him) and a Makarov 9
mm-calibre pistol with a charger and seven 9-mm cartridges in the car.
The detained persons and the seized items were sent for
examination. The details are being revealed. The Main Department for
Fight against Organized Crime is conducting an investigation.
