FORMER DEPUTY PROSECUTOR GENERAL DETAINED

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ On February 23, at the Argavand crossroad near
Yerevan, the police stopped two cars, namely VAZ21010 ¹ 80 UU 555
and BMW X5 99SL 555, conveying armed people who aimed to destabilize
Armenia, said a statement issued by the RA Police.
The car was stopped for a check but the passengers showed
resistance. As result, two law enforcers - Gevorg Malkhasyan and Tigran
Karapetyan - were wounded. Vardan Jahangiryan, who put up resistance,
was also injured.
The law enforcers detained former deputy prosecutor general Gagik
Jahangiryan, his brother Vardan Jahangiryan, his assistant Karen
Hovhannisyan and driver Levon Poghosyan.
As is turned out, Gagik Jahangiryan had a Czech pistol with 14
cartridges in it. His brother was armed with PSM pistol with 8
cartridges. A gun, a browning, a knife, handcuffs and a bullet-proof
vest were found in the car.
A criminal case was initiated
By presidential decree, Gagik Jahangiryan was released from the post
of deputy prosecutor general after he joined the opposition movement
led by Levon Ter-Petrosyan.
