YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 25, NOYAN TAPAN. At the beginning of the February 25
sitting of the RA National Assembly Tigran Torosian, the Speaker of the
National Assembly, made public the application of Vahan Hovhannisian
on the resignation from the post of the Vice Speaker of the National
Assembly since February 25. According to the NA Regulations-Law,
if he does not take back the application on the resignation during
three days after the proclaming of the resignation, the resignation
will be considered accepted.
Then Tigran Torosian offered to congratulate RA Prime Minister Serge
Sargsian on the occasion of being elected RA President as a result of
the February 19 elections and expressed conviction that they will try
to solve the problems set in front of the country and people under
the conditions of a complete cooperation in future as well.
About sixty bills and legislative parcels, as well as 18 international
treaties subject to ratification are included on the agenda of
the four-day sittings. They also include 26 bills and parcels, 9
international treaties, which were discussed still in the previous
four-day sittings, however they were not voted, because of the
insufficient participation of MPs in the sittings. All the issues
subject to voting were accepted. Except for the bill on "Organic
agriculture" adopted by the second reading, amendments and addenda
are envisaged in the valid laws by all the other adopted projects.
It should be mentioned that the Orinats Yerkir (Country of Law)
faction was not present at the sitting with its complete staff. The
ARF faction voted abstaining, according to the statement made on the
eve by Hrayr Karapetian, the Leader of the faction, motivating the
decision by the absence of the faction from the discussion of the
issues in the previous four-day sittings.
The Zharangutiun (Heritage) faction did not take part in the votings,
except for the first issue. In the clarification of Styopa Safarian,
the Secretary of the faction, the position of the faction is
conditioned by the circumstance that all the above-mentioned issues
have been discussed in the previous four-day sittings "in a vacant
or semi-vacant hall."
