YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 25, NOYAN TAPAN. Armen Bayburdian, the RA Deputy
Minister of Foreign Affairs, the RA Ambassadors to Kazakhstan and
Italy have been deprived of the offices they held and the diplomatic
degree of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for the
statement on joining the movement initiated by Levon Ter-Petrosian,
the first President of the Republic of Armenia. On February 25 RA
Minister of Foreign Affairs Vardan Osakanian informed journalists
that they all have been dismissed from the offices they held by the
same groundings as, in the words of the Minister, "the law does not
allow dimplomats to carry out such political activities."
"I have heard the orders of the RA President with sorrow, I have signed
the orders on the dismissal of those diplomats with sorrow. I consider
this to be, first of all, a blow to the system," Vardan Oskanian
confessed. In his words, the ambassadors have joined a movement, the
leader of which has obviously called this state "chieftainship" and the
leader of the country "chieftain" during the whole campaign. "In fact,
they approve of those marks. Therefore, the ambassadors appointed
by the President, who represent the President and the state, cannot
continue their work," Vardan Oskanian clarified.
In the words of the Minister, people, who have born serious
relations with the former authorities, have been relieved of their
posts. Whereas, according to Vardan Oskanian, Robert Kocharian made
a distinct decision after coming to power, according to which no
discrimination is to be displayed towards cadres. In the words of
Vardan Oskanian, all those people, who had close relations with the
former authorities, not only continued to work in the system but also
went higher, were appointed ambassadors, therefore, "they were to
be the last to take that step." At the same time, the Minister of
Foreign Affairs made assertions that there will be no "hunting of
witches" in the system. "Those, who have not joined the movement,
will continue to work," the Minister of Foreign Affairs declared.
