YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 25, NOYAN TAPAN. The presidential elections were not
free of gross violations, acts of violence and rigging, which shows
once again that the current system is a vicious one and must undergo
drastic changes, the chairman of the Democratic Party of Armenia
(DPA) Aram Sargsian stated at the February 25 press conference,
adding that this is the demand put forward by those who voted for
the opposition candidate and the voters who gave their votes to
the authorities' candidate. In his words, under such conditions the
newly elected president of Armenia is obliged to make system reforms
in the country. "The primary national problems make it urgent to
clean the country from corruption, monopolies, shadow economy,
clannish-protectional phenomena and to put the principle of social
justice into practice by taking concrete steps," he said.
He advised Levon Ter-Petrosian and the political forces supporting
him to dispute the election results in order envisaged by law and
not to use pressure, as well as various illegal, psychological and
forceful methods. A. Sargsian rejected the attempts to act on behalf
of all the opposition.
According to him, there are opposition forces that do not share
the idea of carrying out an orange revlution, which the team of
L. Ter-Petrosian is trying to do now.
In his speech made on behalf of the "Constitutional Right Union"
party, Hayk Babukhanian called on "the real opposition forces to
unite for the struggle against the non-national movement".
