LEADER OF OPPOSITIONAL DEMOCRATIC MOTHERLAND PARTY PETROS MAKEYAN ARRESTED

ArmInfo. The leader of the oppositional Democratic Motherland Party,
Petros Makeyan, has been arrested.
Press-secretary of Armenian Prosecutor General Sona Truzyan told
ArmInfo that the pretrial investigation on the criminal case
instituted on Feb 21 found out that Mourad Grigoryan, the head of
presidential candidate Levon Ter-Petrosyan's campaign office in Gyumri,
and Ashot Zakaryan, the former head of military police of Gyumri,
entered the polling station 34.06 in Gyumri at 2:30 pm Feb 19. They
started expressing their discontent with the stamps put in voters'
passports, conflicting with the head and members of the precinct
election commission and threatening them. 1-2 minutes later, Shota
Saghatelyan, who represented himself as Levon Ter-Petrosyan's election
agent, entered the same polling station and tangled with the members
of the precinct election commission. After he had left, Leader of
the Democratic Motherland Party Petros Makeyan entered the polling
station, he also tangled with the commission members and disturbed
their work for 10 minutes. The special investigative group instituted
a criminal case under Article 149, Part 2, Items 3 and 5 of the RA
Criminal Code. Signing the protocol as a suspect in the case, Petros
Makeyan expressed a desire to make use of a lawyer's services. His
counselor is Tigran Ter-Yesayan, as Makeyan himself wished.
All necessary measures are being taken to reveal other participants
in the crime and disclose all the circumstances of the criminal case.
