YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 26, NOYAN TAPAN. It is the third day that the hunger
strike of 10 activists is continuing in Freedom Square in parallel
with persistent rallies and sit-down strikes of supporters of the
first Armenian president Levon Ter-Petrosian. Yerevan residents John
Karapetian and Edgar Shaboyan told NT correspondent that they will
be on hunger strike until L.
Ter-Petrosian becomes the president of the country.
French Armenian Sargis Hatspanian, a former azatamartik (freedom
fighter), who is also on hunger strike, stated prior to the
February 26 rally that a companion-in-arms (currently a general)
called him last night and told him to stop this extreme measure of
protest. S. Hatspanian did not give the name of this general, saying
that maybe he will also join the movement led by L. Ter-Petrosian.
