YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 27, NOYAN TAPAN. According to the evaluation of RA
President Robert Kocharian, the presidential elections "indeed were
held at a proper level, the counting was done correctly." He stated
this in his interview to Public Television. In his words, if there
are some doubts, there is another instance, the Constitutional Court,
to which the opposition can apply.
He said that the voting results were appealed against in 159
polling stations, the results of the elections were recounted
in 135 polling stations, 86 out of which on the basis of the
complaints of RA presidential candidates Levon Ter-Petrosian and
Artur Baghdasarian. "And only in one polling station we had a serious
problem, the chairman of that polling station has been arrested. In
the other places the main problem was issues connected with the voting
mark, whether the mark's tail came beyond the table or not." These
complaints, these doubts, according to the head of country, are
not grounded.
As R. Kocharian characterized, admitting a defeat with dignity has not
become part of the political culture yet. "The Republic of Armenia
has never had such estimations by international structures, it is
unequivocal, these reports should be just compared with the reports
of the previous elections and should be compared with the reports
of other CIS countries. It is obviously serious progress. There are
no countries, where no violations are committed during elections, we
speak about the amounts and the content of these violations," he said.
