YEREVAN, 29.02.08. DE FACTO. Nagorno-Karabakh refugees' NGO and
Department for Refugees and Migration under the NKR government intend
to appeal to the U. N. requesting that the Armenian refugees residing
in the NKR be granted international status, Deputy Chairwoman of the
NKR refugees' NGO Ruzanna Avakian told Karabakh-Open.com.
To note, Armenian refugees residing in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic
do not have international status because of non-recognition of the
state. The law "On Refugees", according to which Armenians, who had
lived in Azerbaijan's various regions and suffered as a result of the
Karabakh-Azerbaijani conflict, received the status of NKR refugees,
was adopted in NKR in 2004. During the past 3 years they received a
small compensation from the Karabakh state for lost property.
