    [11:42 am] 14 January, 2008

The traditional Corus Chess 2008 tournament kicked
off in Wijk ann Zee, Holland, on January 11. The
tournament is held in different groups. All eyes are
on the premier GM A Group which features top-ranked
    players all over the world.

Armenian GM Levon Aronian won over the world-known
chess player Veselin Topalov, Bulgaria, at the first
round. World Champion Vishvanatan Anand lost to Azeri
Temur Rajabov at the same round.

At the second tour Aronian beat Boris Gelfand from
    Israel.

After the first two rounds Aronian shares the leading
    place with Magnus Carlsen.

Sergey Movsissian, Slovakia, met Armenian Gabriel
Sargsian at the first round of the GM Group B. The GMs
competed at an international tournament held in Spain
    in the December of 2007.

As the previous time they played a tie. At the next
second round Sargsian tied with Smith and Movsissian
with Cheparinov. Presently, the Armenian GMs take the
    7-10th places respectively.

Meanwhile, the Armenian Men's Chess Championship is
underway in the Chess House of Armenia. At the fifth
round Tigran L. Petrossian won over Tigran Nalbandian.
Presently, Petrossian tops the fixture list with 4.5
points, followed by Artashes Minassian, Samvel
Ter-Sahakian, Artashes Anastassian and Smbat Lputian
