Issues of reloading the thermoelectric power station of Yerevan,
construction of a hydroelectric station on Araks River and exploitation
of the Armenian nuclear power plant were discussed during RA President
Robert Kocharyan's working meeting with RA Minister of Energy Armen
Movsisyan.
The Minister first presented the situation in the sphere of energy as
a result of cold weather conditions. In his words, the consumption
of energy in the republic has reached 23.5 kwh, which has brought
about considerable tension. However, despite that the system manages
to avoid serious accidents.
Reference was made to the installation of the steam turbine in the
thermoelectric power station of Yerevan. The Minister said the work
will be completed within two years and the turbine will have the power
of 245 megawatts and will decrease the expenses of energy production.
Issues related to the preparation works for construction of the
hydroelectric station on Araks River, construction of high-tension
power lines between Armenia and Georgia, secure exploitation of
the nuclear power plant and construction of a new nuclear unit were
discussed.
