CIS OBSERVATION MISSION OF RA PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS STARTS WORKING IN YEREVAN

YEREVAN, JANUARY 24, NOYAN TAPAN. An observation mission of CIS,
which is to observe the February 19, 2008 presidential elections
of Armenia, set to work. According to the information provided by
the mission's Yerevan headquarters, on January 22, the mission was
opened by V. G. Garkun, the First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive
Committee - Executive Secretary.
V. G. Garkun met with the management of the RA Police, the Chairman of
the RA Central Electoral Commission, the RA Prosecutor General. It
was reported that V. G. Garkun said that the monitoring will be
implemented by the principles of political neutrality and impartiality,
non-interference into the state's internal affairs.
It is supposed that representatives of the CIS member-states, of
the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS member-states, Parliamentary
Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia will be included in the
observation mission on the part of CIS.
According to the same source, during the visit, which will last until
January 27, the mission will meet with the leadership of a number of
preelection headquarters of candidates for presidency, with the head
of the OSCE mission.
