Turkey evaluates Armenian invitation in football
Turkey has been evaluating the proposal of Armenian president to watch
a football game between national teams of two countries with his
Turkish counterpart, a foreign ministry spokesman said on Thursday.
Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian invited last week Turkish President
Abdullah Gul to watch the football match in Yerevan between the two
countries on September 6 in 2010 World Cup qualifiers to mark "a new
start in relations."
Two neighboring countries have no diplomatic links since Ankara
intensified its protests against Armenian invasion and violence in the
Nagorno-Karabakh region, which is an Azerbaijan territory. The border
between Turkey and Armenia has been closed since early 1990s.
