    July 17 2008
    Armenia

Armenian Foreign Minister Edvard Nalbandyan, who is on a working visit
to Washington, met US Assistant Secretary of State [for European and
Eurasian Affairs] Daniel Fried and the US co-chair of the OSCE Minsk
    Group, Matthew Bryza.

Issues of bilateral cooperation, ensuring regional security and
stability were discussed at the Nalbandyan-Fried meeting, the press
service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry has told Mediamax news agency.

The sides exchanges opinions on the causes and consequences of
the post-election developments in Armenia and the steps that the
Armenian government takes to overcome them. Prospects for settling
Armenian-Turkish relations were also discussed during the meeting.

During the meeting with Bryza, the Armenian foreign minister discussed
the current stage of the negotiations on the settlement of the Karabakh
issue, the outcomes of the recent visit by the [OSCE Minsk Group]
co-chairs to the region, as well as the possibility of organizing a
new meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers.

Speaking about continuing the negotiations, Nalbandyan said that the
statements by the Azerbaijani leadership, which contain apparent
territorial claims to Armenia and bellicose propaganda are not
appropriately evaluated by the international community. The Armenian
foreign minister said that such an attitude significantly complicates
the establishment of an atmosphere of trust in the negotiations
    process.
