THE ARMENIAN CHURCH PARTICIPATES IN THE LAMBETH CONFERENCE

The Lambeth Conference of the Family of Anglican Churches, a meeting of
Bishops convened once every ten years, launched in the English city of
Canterbury on July 19. The Armenian Church participated in this meeting with
both Catholicosates. Bishop Nathan Hovhannissian (Primate of the Diocese of
England) represented the Catholicosate of All Armenians in Saint
Etchmiyadzine. Bishop Nareg Alemezian (Ecumenical Officer) participated on
behalf of the Armenian Church, Catholicosate of Cilicia in Antelias.

Later the same day, Bishop Nareg met with the Spiritual Leader of the Family
of Anglican Church, the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams and conveyed
to him the brotherly greetings of His Holiness Aram I. The Archbishop
recalled with pleasure his visit to Antelias in September 2007 and sent his
own greetings to the Armenian Pontiff.

Following the evening mass, Archbishop Rowan presented the 75 ecumenical
guests from various churches to the 650 Bishops and over 1000 guests
participating in the meeting. All the guests attended the Holy Mass held in
the Mother Church of Canterbury on July 20.

In his evening speech, Archbishop Rowan highlighted the difficulties and
challenges the Family of Anglican Churches is facing, calling upon its
followers to gather around the principles of reform and mutual respect.
