ARMENIAN ECONOMY GROWS 9.3% IN JAN-APRIL

Armenia's GDP grew 9.3% year-on-year in the first four months of 2008,
and measured 696.1 billion dram ($2.3 billion), the National Statistics
Service reported.
The construction sector expanded 16.8% to 71.1 billion dram, and
the service sector grew 11.2% to 172 billion dram, while industrial
production edged up 0.1% to 227 billion dram.
The country increased electricity production by 3.9% to 2.145
billion kWh.
The foreign trade turnover grew 28.3% year-on-year to 472.3 billion
dram ($1.531 billion) in the four months, as exports rose 4.4% to
104 billion dram ($337.2 million) and imports jumped 37.2% to 368.3
billion dram ($1.194 billion).
The official exchange rate for May 30 was 305.52 dram/$1.
