YEREVAN, JUNE 4, ARMENPRESS: Meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani
presidents will take place on June 6 in Saint Petersburg. "We have
hopes connected with the meeting in respect that it is the first
meeting of the newly elected Armenian president and Azerbaijani
president. It must be of familiarizing nature not only in personal
respect, but also in respect of approaches, positions, philosophy. We
hope that during this meeting positive results will be achieved, and
the sides will state that they are ready to continue negotiations,"
Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian told today at a press
conference.
The minister said that the suggestions registered in the document
presented by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairman in Madrid are the basis
of negotiations, and Armenia is ready to continue the peaceful process
over it. "Azerbaijan must also be ready to continue the negotiations
on the basis of the suggestions," the minister said, noting that the
document is registered in OSCE in Vienna.
"In reality those suggestions are registered in a format of a
document," the minister pointed out. He said they are result of
long-lasting efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.
E. Nalbandian pointed out that it is necessary to restrain from any
step which may impede the negotiations. Currently the negotiations
are in such a phase when it is necessary to be very careful not to
impede them. The minister said establishments, not well-aware of the
process, must be careful when making comments and statements.
The minister noted that the Azerbaijani side mentions about peaceful
regulation of the conflict less but speaks more about military
settlement of the conflict.
"Karabakh conflict must be regulated in a peaceful way, there is no
alternative to negotiations, statements about military regulation of
the conflict are inadmissible," Nalbandian said..
