YE REVAN, JUNE 11, NOYAN TAPAN. On the occasion of the death of grand
master Karen Asrian, Serge Sargsian, the President of the Republic
of Armenia, has sent a telegram of condolence to the Asrians.
"I learnt about the death of Karen Asrian, a leading chess player of
Armenia, with great sorrow. The death of golden medal winner of the
world olympiad, thrice champion of Armenia, grand master Karen Asrian
is a great loss for the Armenian chess. The pain is multiplied when we
realize what heights the talented sportsman could reach, but did not
manage. I have seen for many times with what devotedness he defended
the sports honor of our country, with what readiness he helped his
friends and how interested he was in the development of the Armenian
chess. At this moment of deep sorrow I present my condolences to the
family, and relatives of Karen Asrian, as well as to all the chess
fans of Armenia," is said in the telegram of the RA President.
