ARMENIAN OPPOSITIONIST COMPARES THE 1 MARCH EVENTS IN YEREVAN WITH POGROMS IN SUMGAIT

ArmInfo. 'The situation created in the country is a full stop in
the policy of the Armenian authorities', - commander of the Shushi
battalion during the Karabakh war Jirayr Sefilyan, released on 9 June,
said at the press-conference in Urbat club today.
He also added that the present authorities of the country "are the
finished politicians, they have not more than a month or two to stay
in power", and today the opposition decides what to do next. He also
said that the authorities proved they do not want to leave without
blood. At the same time he is sure that they can get power change
even via ordinary rallies.
Sefilyan compared the 1 March events with the Armenian pogroms in
Sumgait, saying there is no difference who were the organizers
- Azerbaijanis or Armenians. At the same time he said he has no
personal problems with the leaders of the country. 'I worked with Serzh
Sarkisyan for many years and if he has nothing in common with all this,
I have no claims to him, but let him prove that', - Sefilyan said.
