ANOTHER 70 SEUA STUDENTS TO STUDY BY PROGRAM OF SYNOPSYS

YEREVAN, JUNE 13, NOYAN TAPAN. Starting from September, another 70
students of the State Engieering University of Armenia (SEUA) will
study for a bachelor's degree at the SEUA interdepartmental chair
"Microelectronic Circuits and Systems". The chair functions on the
basis of Synopsys Armenia CJSC - Armenian subsidiary of Sysnopsys
company, the world leader in electronic automated design of
semiconductors, and uses Synopsys' educational program of integrated
chip design and electronic design automation. Executive director of
Synopsys Armenia Hovik Musaelian stated this on June 11 after the
meeting with second-year students of SEUA Departments of Computer
Systems and Information Science, Radio Engineering and Communication
Facilities, and Cybernetics.
He said that Synopsys cooperates with nearly 500 universities
worldwide, but its 7-year cooperation with SEUA is unique, which has
also been acknowledged by Synopsys management. The SEUA is the only
university to have a chair founded on the basis of Synopsys, and it is
the fourth year that this chair has prepared personnel for Synopsys and
Armenian subsidiaries of some other leading foreign companies. "We
solve a very important problem of brain drain," H. Musaelian pointed
out, adding that Synopsys attaches great importance to the indicated
program and its role in training personnel for IT sector, in
particular, very-large-scale semiconductor integrated chip design.
270 graduates have studied by Synopsys-SEUA educational program so far.
The program's graduates make up 30% of the current 400 employees at
Synopsys.
During the meeting, the head of the interdepartmental chair
"Microelectrnic Circuits and Systems" Vazgen Melikian presented the
order of selecting students to be trained by Synopsys' educational
program. The selection is made by Synopsys experts and SEUA lecturers.
The program includes courses for bachelor's and master's degrees.
Synopsys' experience of implementing educational programs in Armenia is
also used in Russia: an educational program for very-large-sclale
integrated chip design, which was developed at the Education Department
of Synopsys Armenia, is used at the Moscow State Institute of
Electronic Technology. The first 20 Masters trained by this program
graduated in early June.
