"CHESS GIANTS" INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT RENAMED AFTER KAREN ASRIAN

YEREVAN, JUNE 13, NOYAN TAPAN. The "Chess Giants" international
tournament restarted in Yerevan after the two-day break on June 12.
After 6 stages Gabriel Sargsian (Armenia), Alexander Morozevich
(Russia), Levon Aronian (Armenia) and Peter Leko (Hungary) are in the
lead of the tournament table with 3.5 points each. Michael Adams
(England) has three, Vladimir Hakobian (Armenia) and Boris Gelfand
(Israel) 2.5 points each and Bu Ksianji (China) has two points.
On June 12 another international tournament of rapid chess was to be
held in the Tigran Petrosian Chess House, but the Chess Federation of
Armenia decided to annul it because of the death of grand master Karen
Asrian. By another decision of the Chess Federation, the "Chess Giants"
international tournament was renamed as Karen Asrian memorial
tournament, which will become traditional.
