OBJECTIVE OF SOLIDARITY MOVEMENT IS TO PROTECT NATIONAL INTERESTS OF ARMENIA

YEREVAN, JUNE 17, NOYAN TAPAN. As a result of the political situation
created in Armenia, society has been devided into two opposite poles:
one's own people and foreigners, which puts the statehood of the
country into danger and strikes at the establishment of public
solidarity. This is mentioned in the call of the Hamerashkhutiun
(Solidarity) public-political movement, which was made public during
the forum held on June 17. As Sargis Avetisian, the coordinator of
the movement, mentioned, the objective of the movement is to protect
the national interests. According to him, neither the demand for a
dialogue of the authorities, nor the strict position of the opposition
can contribute to the establishment of public solidarity.
"We are against any action based on personal or group interests in the
sphere of political and public activities, which will do harm to the
protection of our national and state interests," is mentioned in the
call of the movement. In the words of S. Avetisian, they appeal to
all those, for whom the present and future of Armenia are dear. "We
declare solidarity to all those, whose thought and work are directed
at the strengthening and progress of the republic," he said.
According to S. Avetisian, more than 30 non-governmental organizations
and 150 thousand supporters have already joined the Solidarity
movement.
