BTA INVESTBANK, ARMIMPEXBANK, PROCREDIT BANK LEADERS OF ARKA PRESS RATING FOR 1ST QUARTER 2008

The ARKA News Agency has published a press rating of Armenia's banks
for the 1st quarter of 2008. Three banks are among the leaders:
BTA Investbank, Armimpexbank and Procreditbank.
An analysis of press reports for the period under review showed that
the banks were less active in providing information to the press,
with a less information content recorded in their reports. The
number of press signals by the banks showed a 26% decrease in the
1st quarter of 2008 as compared with the corresponding period last
year (fig.1). Their total index, the amount of specific information,
decreased by 28.3% and reached 2,217.
In the structure of general information on banks for the 1st quarter of
2008 (fig. 3), the information for the heading "General" increased from
37.3% to 47.1%, with a decrease recorded in the amount of press signals
for all the other headings. The share of information on the following
headings increased: "Bank's economic forecasts and opinions" (3.5% to
4.2%) and Bank's development policy (32.3% to 32.4%). The shares of the
subheadings "Clients and service" and "Banking activities in figures"
decreased from 4.6% to 1.2% and from 22.3% to 15% respectively.
Both the number and the share of negative press signals increased in
the structure of information on "General" for the 1st quarter of 2008.
The share of negative information increased from 2% in the 1st quarter
of 2007 to 4.2% in the 1st quarter of 2008. The number of signals
increased from four to eight.
In the 1st quarter of 2008, the BTA Investbank reported the most
information on "General" (81.92), "Bank Development policy" (369.03)
and "Clients and Service" (10.24).
The Ardshininvestbank reported the most information on "Banking
activities in figures" (99.97). The Armimpexbank and ProCredit Bank
reported the most information on "Bank's economic forecasts and
opinions" (12.8 each).
The press-rating is based not on financial and economic indices, but on
the facts of banking activities, which are reported by mass media. The
higher is the level pf public awareness of the bank's activities the
more effective is the bank's communication policy. Advertisements
were not studied or analyzed in the preparation of the press rating.
