Yerevan, Armenia (AHN) - Armenia has declared a state of emergency.
After 11 days of protest against the allegedly rigged presidential
elections last month, President Robert Kocharyan on Saturday signed
a decree putting the country under emergency rule until March 20.
The decision reportedly came after police fired guns into the air
and used tear gas to disperse 15,000 protestors.
Saturday's clash came in Freedom Square after police cleared out
protestors who had been camping there.
