EXTRAORDINARY SESSION OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF RA

On March 2 upon the initiative of 60 deputies of the National Assembly
an extraordinary session of the National Assembly was held in order
to discuss the National Assembly's draft statement concerning the
events that took place in Yerevan on March 1. This was presented by
Mr. Rafik Petrosyan, deputy of the National Assembly:
THE STATEMENT OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF
THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA
ON THE EVENTS IN THE CITY OF YEREVAN ON MARCH 1
Expressing anxiety on the occasion of the events, denouncing
- the provocation of the barbarism in the capital by the well known
forces, as a result of which several dozens of people, representatives
of law enforcement bodies got injured and the capital suffered
considerable moral and material losses,
- the campaigning of hatred and evil in political processes,
- any action upsetting the stability of the country, international
prestige and the national unity.
Stressing
- the re-establishment of order and restoration of the regular life
in the capital,
- the liquidation of the danger threatening the people's life
and property,
- the solution of the political problems based on dialogue,
- the solution of the problems concerning the legal, particularly
electoral processes in accordance with Constitution and legislation,
- the honouring of tolerance as a basis of excluding splits in
the society,
The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia
- considers necessary and lawful the decree of the President of the
Republic of Armenia by March 1, 2008 on declaring state of emergency,
- calls on our citizens to restraint and common sense in order to
overcome this complicated situation as quick as possible and return
the country to normal course of life.
The President of the National Assembly Mr. Tigran Torosyan put to
voting the National Assembly's draft statement, which was unanimously
received at the NA extraordinary session by the present 81 deputies.
Exhausting the agenda the NA extraordinary session ended its work.
