No-one will benefit from presenting Azerbaijan with ultimatums, the
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said when meeting with the local
population on 4 March in the Azerbaijani Khanlar region
Speaking on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the President noted that
the country's military potential is increasing and that would have
an impact on settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. "The invading
country now realizes that Azerbaijan is not a country that one can
occupy," President Aliyev said.
The President said that the on-going conflict is a result of
Azerbaijan's principled stand based on international standards. "The
separatist forces will not achieve any compromise. We will not let
Nagorno-Karabakh be separated from Azerbaijan," he said.
"The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be settled by Azerbaijan observing
its territorial integrity. Azerbaijan will continue negotiations in
order to settle the conflict in a peaceful manner, but simultaneously
strengthening its army," the President said.
"Several international organizations have criticized us for
strengthening our army. That is our personal issue. When we were weak,
no-one extended a helping hand to us," Ilham Aliyev said.
