The Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan has expressed concern over Tuesday's
firefight between Azeri and Armenian forces at the contact line
between the two in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"We express concern over any violation of the ceasefire. However,
yesterday's situation was different from previous ones as to its
intensity," Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Vasily Istratov told a
news conference in Baku on Wednesday.
"As to the reasons behind the incident, it would be wrong to comment
before monitoring is carried out there," Istratov said, suggesting
that the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)
will organize monitoring in a day or two.
The ambassador also noted that Russia was a co-chairman of the OSCE
Minsk Group and was not planning any moves out of the format.
