Mr. Vartkes Mahdessian, the Armenian Parliamentary representative
of Cyprus, through press-release, expresses his and the communities
sorrow regarding the comments made against Marios Garoyian, candidate
for the Cyprus Parliamentary speaker.
He brands this comment as racist, and refers to similar comments;
regarding Mr. Garoyian's Armenian origin, when the latter was seeking
the DIKO party Presidency.
He mentions the long history and contribution of Cypriot Armenians,
and refers to the constitution which recognises the Cypriot Armenians
as equals.
He also mentions that such behaviour is not acceptable in a European
Cyprus, and that our main concern and efforts should be towards a
viable and fair solution of the Cyprus problem.
