The "Democracy," "Motherland," and "Dashnaktsutyun-Movement" factions
of the National Assembly of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic issued a
statement on the proclamation of independence by Kosovo, Mediamax
reports.
In the statement of the NKR parliamentarians express support for
the right for self-determination and welcome the position of the
international community on respecting the civil right of the majority
of Kosovo's population.
It is noted in the document that "for decades the Azeri authorities
have been consistently implementing the policy of discrimination,
restriction of civil rights, ethnic cleansing and forced emigration
of the Armenian population. It became possible to prevent its tragic
consequences only after organized self-defense."
The parliamentarians expressed hope that "through negotiations it
is necessary to reach a reciprocally acceptable solution, which
will guarantee the international recognition of the fact of free
self-determination of Nagorno Karabakh.
The NKR National Assembly factions called on the Parliaments of the
world "to be consistent in recognizing the states created ion the
basis of the right of nations to self-determination and refrain from
dual standards."
