ARMENIAN PRESIDENT-ELECT DENIES REPORTS ON PENDING ARREST OF EX-LEADER

Yerevan, 12 March: Armenian Prime Minister and president-elect Serzh
Sargsyan has dismissed the rumours that theauthorities plan to arrest
former President Levon Ter-Petrosyan.
Sargsyan made the statement today at a meeting with the students of
the Armenian State Economics University. He said that "those rumours
are false". Meanwhile, he said the assumption that the Armenian
authorities would not"risk" to arrest the ex-president are also untrue.
Sargsyan said that the trial of the organizers of the 1-2 March riots
in Yerevan will be transparent so thateverybody knows who is guilty
of what. He also said that "the people will decide Ter-Petrosyan's
fate because there are also historic and moral responsibility aside
from the legal one".
